Who is eligible to apply for a Certificate of Citizenship?
A person may apply for a Certificate of Citizenship
* If he/she claims U.S. citizenship either by action of law while residing in the United States or by having been born outside the United States to U.S. citizen parents.
* If he/she is the biological or adopted child of a U.S. citizen, born outside the United States, and claiming citizenship by action of law, then he / she automatically becomes a U.S. citizen.
