What is the DV lottery?
The United States government allows a lottery of 55,000 visas using a law that was passed by Congress. The lottery is conducted by random computer selection made to a dedicated website for the program and operated by the U.S. State Department. The annual DV program makes visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. The visas allow them to legally live, work and study permanently in the United States and to enter and leave the country freely. Green Card holders also receive health, education, and other rights, and they can sponsor relatives for Green Cards.
